2015 Judge's Verdict
A blend of 80% Syrah, and 20% Grenache, we find that this cooler pocket of Sonoma county, with late morning fogs and coastal breezes, reminds us of the northern Rhône. Wth rocky basalt/schist soils, big minerality, and heavy clay, this is a big and serious wine. Very dark color, sourced from five micro sites on the property, each with a different clone of Syrah or Grenache and different characteristics. One is a bit spicier, one is dark and inky, and another has a wonderful dark berry component to it. We ferment each of the five separately, age them separately in 2 year barrels, and then taste them at the end of 18 months before blending to ensure they have a synergy together for a complex wine.
